By a coincidence of time or just fate, I was lucky enough to have now behind the wheel of Ferrari’s current every time it sold. It is rare even for automotive journalists, and is an honor I never take lightly. Today’s drive of California, marking a special occasion, because it was not the only Ferrari I’m not driven, it is also an all-new kind of Ferrari.
California is full of firsts: the first-ever front-mounted V-8 Motor Ferrari, this is the first to use direct injection in the Ferrari, and Ferrari is the first car that uses a dual-clutch automated manual transmission. This was also the first Ferrari built in modular architecture, and the first built in the new line of production really scary in modernity. I can tour the facility last month, and the California production line clean, quiet, and freakishly automatic. On the one hand, computerization, mass production would make California appear to be more specific; other, ensuring the highest quality level. I think this is a worthwhile tradeoff, especially for special Ferrari that is inherently lower than others.
