Audi R8 Specs 0-60
The original Audi R8 and its 420-hp V8 will still be offered, but later this year, the V10 model arrives stateside. Expect the price to balloon from $115,250 to around $190,000. That’s certainly a lot of dough—especially in this economy.
The 5.2-liter Lambo V10 makes slightly less horsepower (518 versus 552) in the R8 because of revised engine mapping and exhaust tuning.
The aluminum motor resembles a race engine. It spins to a hair-raising 8700 rpm, resulting in a frighteningly fast 88.3-ft-per-second maximum piston speed. To retain crankshaft rigidity without increasing weight, the crank uses common-pin journals that, combined with the 90-degree bank angle, mean an uneven firing interval of 54 and 90 degrees. It makes for a delectable exhaust screech.
The Audi V8 R8 is decidedly quick—0 to 60 mph in 4.74 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 12.93 at 109.4 mph. The V10 version, however, simply blows it away. With our VBOX GPS test gear, we clocked the V10 to 60 mph in only 3.81 seconds. It cleared 100 mph in 8.41 seconds, passed the quarter-mile mark in 11.80 at 119.5 mph, and effortlessly blew past 150 mph in 19.81 seconds. Those are serious times, just a few ticks off the monster 638-hp Corvette ZR1.
